PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is an elective standard towards the qualification National Certificate in Retail/Wholesale processes at NQF 2. It gives access to the Speciality Merchandise sub-sector including General Merchandise, DIY/Hardware, Hi-Fi/photographic equipment, Toys, Books, Stationery and Dry Goods, whilst aligning practice to world-class standards

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Range Statement:?

Techniques for handling and packing stocks of merchandise including shrink-wrapping, using newspaper to pack glassware/breakables, packing general merchandise

Dry Goods:

Removing goods that have exceed shelf-life and sell-by dates, rotating stock in accordance with standard procedures and advising on slow-moving stock?

Displays including shelves, bins, stands and hooks

  • Techniques for merchandising speciality merchandise including:

    DIY/Hardware/ Hi-fi/Photographic equipment:

    Demonstrating the uses of the product/equipment and accessories, advising customers of "add on" products, promotional items and product guarantees

    Stationery ,Books, Toys and Dry Goods:

    Advising customers of current promotional activities and add-on items where applicable

    Displaying category knowledge and highlighting top sellers by applying display techniques and pricing specials for promoting sales of books

    Specialised equipment including paint mixers, ear-piercing and security tag making equipment
