PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This is a core unit towards the National Diploma in Retail/Wholesale Product and Service Management. It is designed to transform business performance through cash management and simultaneously provide individuals with a meaningful qualification that reflects their experiential learning

Techniques for evaluating cash reconciliations including overages, shortages and other variances ? Techniques for reviewing cash strategies including researching current criminal activities, cash collection, cash flow budgets and banking procedures

    1. Developing and monitoring daily cash handling procedures and controls in retail/wholesale business.

    2. Plan and control the banking of cash in retail/wholesale outlets.

    3. Auditing cash reconciliation processes for transactions recorded at points of sale in retail/wholesale outlets.

    4. Solve variances in reconciliation of cash receipts and cash payments with bank statements.

    5. Designing and implementing a policy regarding the acceptance of the various forms of payment based on the requirements of the target market.

    Assessment Criteria:The ability to produce all of the following evidence:

  • Compile effective cash handling security procedures and policies for a R/W business that will keep cash losses at a minimum.?

    Demonstrate correctly techniques for controlling start of day cash procedures?

    Demonstrate correctly techniques for controlling cash reconciliations at end of the day?

    Explain current success (or failure) of current cash handling procedures and put forward recommendations / suggestions for minimising cash shortages and increasing control over cash handling operations

  • Compile effective banking security procedures, policies and control systems for a R/W business to limit the risk of cash losses? Demonstrate the correct application of cash banking procedures and policies.?

    Demonstrate ability to control the application of cash banking procedures and policies to ensure compliance to set standards.
  • Evaluate cash reconciliation processes for transactions recorded at points of sale in retail/wholesale outlets? Complete documentation for all cash related variances to comply with requirements?

    Produce evidence of solving variances in cash reconciliation processes
  • Identify correctly all variances between cash receipts, bank payments and bank statements
  • Complete all reconciliation records within agreed timeframes and stored in accordance with requirements

  • Rectify all variances in the reconciliation of cash receipts, payments and bank statements?

    Compile an effective policy and procedure regarding the acceptance of the various forms of payment based on the requirements of the target market ?

    Demonstrate techniques for authorising payment of transactions within organisational policies

  • Compile a cash flow budget to ensure availability of funds for payment of debt and costs in a WR-business?

    Determine a strategy that will ensure sufficient working capital for the cash flow needs of the WR-business
