PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner should be able to advise customers on different cruise holidays and process bookings on an individual or group basis, world-wide.

OUTCOME NOTES 
1. Explain how to identify the main cruise companies or their sales agents and areas of operation world-wide.

2. Describe how to analyse the cruise market and match segments in the market to the types of cruises.

3. Explain how to identify popular cruise areas/routes, including river cruises, using a map of the world.

4. Explain common embarkation/disembarkation points and clarify fly-cruise holidays and cruise terminology.

5. Describe how to determine special visa requirements and visa waivers for cruise passengers, using appropriate sources.

6. Explain the fact that cruising is seen as a distinctive type of holiday and that many cruises differ from each other.

7. Explain how to identify the categories of cruises that are suited to various types of customers. (Range of types of customers: young partygoers, retired couples, honeymooners, educational cruisers or adventure travellers).

8. Describe how to record all details pertaining to the customer's requirements and file these according to the agency requirements.

9. Given the daily cost of a cruise holiday compared to the daily cost of a different type of holiday, where each item is paid for on an individual basis, discuss the advantages/disadvantages of cruising, taking cruise factors into account. (Range of cruise factors: length of the cruise, type of cabin and size, positions of cabin, date or season of travel, number of persons in cabin, density of the ship).

    13. Select the cruise company best suited to fulfil the customer's needs and not based on agency incentives.

    14. Make recommendation on various cruise packages to suit the customer's specific needs.

    15. Access cruise information using OAG World-wide Cruise and Shipping Guide, Tour Operators brochures, GDS, Travelinfo or the GSA, whichever is appropriate at the time.

    16. Give up-to-date information to the customer.

    17. Maintain service excellence in co-operation with the cruise company to optimise customer satisfaction.

    18. Quote cruise fares to the customer and explain the conditions and details of what is included and excluded.

    19. Make a booking with the cruise company, obtain confirmation and collect a deposit from the customer.

    20. Calculate the commission due to the travel agency and complete the invoice to the customer.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar.

    3. Any institution wishing to receive skill development grants must be accredited with the relevant ETQA. Such an institution will also be registered with the relevant SETA.

    4. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

    Embedded knowledge and Critical cross-field outcomes have been included within the specific outcomes category. This has been done as it was deemed necessary to ensure holistic assessment occurred.

    The specific outcomes can be applied in a range of contexts.

    Many of the outcomes have been written in such a way that competence must be demonstrated in the context as opposed to in isolation from a context.

    The specific outcomes are comparable to outcomes used internationally.

    We therefore structured outcomes using the format noun + verb + condition (modifying phrase)

    Specific outcomes have been split into three categoriesa) knowledge and understanding (what the learner must know and understand)b) decision-making and acting (what the learner must do)c) adapting performance ( including reflexive competence)In many instances there are more than six specific outcomes, as the inclusion of critical cross-field outcomes and embedded knowledge has increased the number of specific outcomes.
