PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner must be able to maintain housekeeping supplies at the optimal level, within a safe and secure environment, and must understand how a shortage of supplies impacts negatively on providing the housekeeping service. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
'Provide a housekeeping service within designated area of work'.

1. Explain safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment when lifting heavy or bulky items.

2. State procedures for the correct handling and transporting of goods to storage areas.

3. State measures for securing receiving areas from unauthorised access.

4. Stress the importance of maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring receiving areas are clean and tidy at all times.

5. Stress the importance of maintaining optimum storage conditions.

6. Explain stock rotation procedures and benefits.

7. State organisational procedures for completing accurate records of items received, stored and issued.

8. Stress the importance of maintaining a constant stock of housekeeping items.

9. Stress the importance of immediately reporting signs of pest infestation.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar.

    3. Any institution wishing to receive skill development grants must be accredited with the relevant ETQA. Such an institution will also be registered with the relevant SETA.

    4. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
