The qualifying learner will demonstrate an understanding of how core management functions impact on court roll management including human resources, budget and finance, information, technology, records and facilities.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Plan a court roll.
  • Apply effective case flow management.
  • Communicate with relevant stakeholders to expedite the finalisation of cases.
  • Quality manage the processing of police dockets.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A Court Roll is prioritised and palnned in accordance with relevant policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The method of communicating the Court Roll with the Presiding Officer is explained in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Witnesses and other pre-trial aspects are prepared in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Apply effective case flow management. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Case flow functions and processes are explained in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Responsibilities of the agencies and individuals (both inside and outside the courts) with whom the courts must work to bring about effective case flow management are identified and communicated to promote coherence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Working relationships with role players in case flow management are established and maintained in a simulated exercise. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Case flow processes are documented and signed for in accordance with related policies and procedures.

    Case flow processes include but are not limited to the role of technology in case flow management.

    Team work and professional relationships with the police in the investigation of a case is demonstrated. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Cooperation with the police in trial preparation is established. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Formal prosecutorial assistance to the investigators is given. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Quality manage the processing of police dockets.

    Dockets prepared by the police are examined for accuracy and completeness. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The criteria for the completion of police dockets are evaluated to facilitate ease of case flow management.

    Documentary evidence contained in the docket is examined according to procedure.
