PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

The learner must be able to prepare beds and handle linen and bed coverings in accordance with organisational requirements.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the importance of making beds using clean linen and bed coverings.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

The impact of keeping soiled linen and bed coverings separate from clean linen is explained.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

The importance of not placing bed coverings that have been removed from beds, on the floor is explained.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Measures for securing linen storerooms from unauthorised access are explained.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

The importance of turning mattresses over on a regular basis is explained.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5

Different bed types are described and the importance of using the correct type of bed linen and coverings when preparing these beds is explained.

Range of bed type may include and is not limited to:

Single, double, queen, king, cot and roll-away.

Range of bed coverings may include but is not limited to:

Sheets, blankets, bedspreads, pillowcases, duvet covers, duvet or pillows and mattress covers.

All used bed coverings are removed from beds.

Soiled and used lined and bed coverings are sorted and despatched.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Clean linen and bed coverings are collected from linen store using clean and undamaged transportation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Mattresses are turned and bed-base, headboard and bed coverings are checked to see that they are clean and free from damage.

Beds are made with correct linen and bed coverings according to organisational requirements.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar.

Any institution wishing to receive skill development grants must be accredited with the relevant ETQA. Such an institution will also be registered with the relevant SETA.

Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
