PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to plan, prepare and apply make-up services their workstation and client for fantasy make-up application for all occasions.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Prepare a workstation for a make-up service.
  • Consult, plan and prepare a client for a make-up service.
  • Perform make-up for a specific occasion.
  • Provide after-care advice for make-up services.

    It is assumed that a learner will be competent in:
  • Communication skills at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 3.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Make-up for a specific occasion includes but are not limited to:
  • Fantasy, theatre, photography, business, camouflage, etc.

    Make up products may include:
  • Foundation (liquid/solid), concealers, powders, eyeshadows (matt/frosted), eyeshades, blushes, mascaras (powder, liquid, wand), lipsticks, Lip glosses, pencils , pre make-up products and stabilisers.

    Make-up equipment may include:
  • Pencil sharpeners, brushes, sponges, applicators, pallets, lash curlers, artificial lashes, tweezers, magnifying mirror, containers/tray etc, spatulas and make up box.

    Reasons for maintaining personal hygiene, protection and appearance are explained according to organisation policies and procedures and occupational health and safety legislation/regulations.

    The workstation is set up to meet legal, hygiene, safety and service requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The use and availability of protective equipment for the client is explained in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

    Lighting is set in accordance with make-up application requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Ways in which to minimise and dispose of waste from services are explained in accordance with organisational requirements.

    The condition in which the work area should be left is explained in terms of organisational procedures.

    The client's face shape, areas for highlighting, shading or correction are described in accordance with pre-determined make-up plan.

    Colour design principles are explained in terms of make-up techniques.

    Colour design principles are applied to meet the occasion.

    Sequencing of make-up application is explained according to organisational requirements.

    Blending techniques are used to blend and mix products and colours to suit the client's skin type, shape and skin condition.

    Make-up products are applied using the equipment and tools in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and safety and hygienic practices.

    Safety and hygienic practices are followed and adhered to throughout the make-up service.
