PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The purpose of this unit standard is for learners to be able to realise and critically review artworks through a process of careful preparation and on-going experimentation, reflection and decision-making within the process of making artworks. The standard also requires that learners are able to source critical inputs from others in reviewing and refining finished artworks. The ability to bring ideas, research and formal and technical investigations together in the practical resolution of finished artworks is a core competence for all visual artists seeking to build their practice and exhibit their work.
Through establishing a standard of rigour in the realisation and critical review of artworks, the standard promotes the development of coherent and innovative artistic practice within the field. The development of distinctive and unique artworks borne out of an individual's creative process is central to the economics of the visual arts industry, and provides visual artists with unique creative resources that can be brought to bear on occupations, projects and income-earning opportunities across the creative industries.
