PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will enable learners to demonstrate an understanding of the procedures necessary to maintain a sanitary workplace and to carry them out.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Explain the importance of maintaining a healthy and sanitary working environment.
  • Identify, maintain and store salon implements and equipment.
  • Sanitise the work environment.
  • Explain and demonstrate waste disposal procedures.

  • Sanitation procedures include both dry and wet techniques for:
    > Tools and equipment such as brushes, combs, scissors, razors, clippers, portable and wall dryers, blow dryers, curling tongs, crimping irons, hot rollers, thermal straighteners, perm rods, colouring aids, thermal accelerators, steamers, beauty and nail implements.
