The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are required by people in the field of building and civil construction. Learners should be able to perform duties in procuring building and civil construction materials, tools and equipment.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:
  • Specify and select building and civil construction materials, tools and equipment in accordance with plans and project specifications.
  • Procure material, tool and equipment in accordance with all relevant procedures for procurement and storage specific to task.
  • Receive materials, tools and equipment for specific building and civil construction activity according to specified procedures.

    Types and characteristics of materials, tools and equipment are identified accurately in accordance with specific task requirements.

    Materials, tools and equipment specified are checked to be appropriate in terms of specific properties and quality requirements.

    Suppliers are chosen based on their ability to supply required resources.

    All prescribed procurement procedures are adhered to as required by appropriate legislation.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
  • Anyone wishing to be assessed against this Unit Standard may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution that is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
