This unit standard will be useful to people who are required to prepare engraving tools for engraving onto jewellery items.

  • Identify and describe the engraving tools and equipment.

    Different text formats for different engraving tasks are identified and described in accordance with the jewellery manufacturing requirements.

    The consequences of choosing the wrong scrolls, lettering or text format, are describbed in terms of the impact on productivity and quality.

    The drawing tools, material and equipment are identified and described in terms of their uses according to manufacturer's specification and specified requirements.

    The metal surface is prepared for the transfer of the design in accordance with the jewellery manufacturing requirements.

    The drawing tools are prepared for the rendering of the engraving design in accordance with the design specifications.

    The consequences of using the wrong drawing tools, materials and equipment, are described in terms of the potential impact on productivity and quality.
