PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to provide people training to become diplomats or to work in foreign affairs, with an understanding of the principles of international law, relevant to the foreign affairs environment.

People credited with this unit are capable of:
  • Describing the nature and sources of international law.
  • Identifying and explaining the relevant provisions of the Constitution of South Africa relating to international law.
  • Describing immunities and privileges applicable in international law.
  • Providing an overview of applied international law.

    The nature of international law is described as applied within a foreign affairs environment.

    International law is categorised according to its key subjects.

    Explanations are provided of the differences between international law and domestic law, with particular reference to the applications of international law in a foreign affairs environment.
