PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to understand the importance of implementing a negotiated health and safety agreement and the monitoring of compliance thereto. Learners will also be able to describe the content requirements of a health and safety agreement, consult with constituents regarding the content requirements and monitor the implementation of the action plan related to the health and safety agreement.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining the specific requirements for participating in the establishment, implementation and monitoring of Health and Safety Agreements.
  • Participating in the negotiation of a Health and Safety Agreement.
  • Monitoring the implementation of a Health and Safety Agreement.

    Explain the specific requirements for participating in the establishment, implementation and monitoring of Health and Safety Agreements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The process pertaining to Health and Safety negotiations and consultations is explained according to specified requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The negotiation process may include, but is not limited to, reviewing existing agreements, identifying the stakeholders, consulting with the constituents to identify their needs, exchanging views with other stakeholders, giving feedback to constituents, obtaining a mandate, reaching consensus with other stakeholders and ratifying the agreement.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of implementing negotiated Health and Safety Agreements according to specified requirements is explained in terms of the consequences to heath, safety, environment and production. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The monitoring of compliance to the Health and Safety Agreement is explained according to specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The stakeholders who should be participating in the negotiation process are identified according to specified requirements.

    Stakeholders to be identified may include, but are not limited to, management representatives, employee representatives, recognised union/s, associations' representatives.

  • Agreement may include, but are not limited to, a mandate, new or revised Health and Safety Agreement.

    An implementation plan is drafted according to the agreed priorities and in accordance with specified requirements.

  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
