PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is intended for learners within the Sovereignty of the State sub-field who wish to work in the maritime environment as a warfare operations officer on a warship. The learner successfully completing this Unit Standard will gain essential knowledge and practical skills in operation room watch keeping, which is needed to operate with confidence onboard a warship during a mission.
The competencies achieved by the learner in this Unit Standard will contribute to the preservation of human life and the defence of South African warships, territorial waters and/or area of responsibility, thus providing a safer and secure society for South African citizens. Operations Room equipment is used according to its purpose, operation, capabilities and limitations. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
Liaison takes place with the weapons engineer so as to ensure that the operations room equipment is serviceable, available and at required levels of readiness for the particular stage of the mission. |

Equipment testing is coordinated and supervised at each handover of the watch. |

An Operations Room readiness report is submitted to the appropriate authorities. |
