PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard has been developed for the GISC occupational area and is intended for persons who aim to achieve career advancement within social and economic transformation by gaining GIS skills leading to a qualification based on unit standards. A person who has successfully completed this Unit Standard is able to interpret and apply legislation applicable to GISc practices.
A qualifying learner credited with this Unit Standard will be able to: |
LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
NQF Level 6 communication, as well as an ability to compare the South African GISc legislative environment to legislation in other countries, to implement a GI System in a small business or municipality, and to provide advice regarding: Data gathering, data processing, data modeling, visualization, data output, GI System architecture, GI database management, security, storage, and archiving procedures; an ability to interpret the Professional and Technical Surveyors` Act, No. 40 of 1984, and the rules framed thereunder, to investigate and interpret the SDI Act, No 54 of 2003 and the regulations framed thereunder, and to interpret and apply the Promotion to Access to Information Act, No. 2 of 2000 and the applicable sections of the Copy Right, No. 98 of 1978 will facilitate better understanding and proficiency in this unit standard. |
