PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who work in the security area within a DC or warehouse.

It is for people who are responsible for checking stock prior to its leaving the DC to ensure the correct stock in the correct quantities as invoiced by the DC/Warehouse, are dispatched.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Explain the effect of shrinkage and losses.
  • Explain how out-bound orders are checked.
  • Check out-bound orders.

    Explain the effect of shrinkage and losses. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Shrinkage and losses are explained in relation to the profits of the organisation and their impact on employees. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The effect of incorrect deliveries/non-delivery of merchandise is explained in respect of its affect on the DC, the customer of the DC and the shopper. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Ways in which shrinkage and losses occur are explained as applicable to the process of picking and dispatching.

    Explain how out-bound orders are checked.

    The method for checking out-bound orders is explained as it applies to the organisation.

    The handling of discrepancies discovered as a result of checking out-bound orders is explained as it applies to the organisation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Discrepancies includes but is not limited to incorrect goods having been picked, excess or short quantities, missing goods, damaged goods, expired/short dated goods.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Stock description and quantities for dispatch are identified as recorded by the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Actual stock for dispatch is compared to documentation as per organisation procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Discrepancies are identified and handled according to organisation policies and procedures within required timeframes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The packing of the goods is checked to ensure stock is packed according to the requirements of the organisation and characteristics of the stock. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Characteristics of the stock includes but is not limited to cold chain, or high value items, drugs, heavy goods, hazardous goods.

  • Programmes leading to the award of credits from this unit standard will be accredited by the Wholesale and Retail SETA in its ETQA role. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the Wholesale and Retail SETA ETQA.
  • Internal Moderations will be performed by the Accredited Providers whilst the Wholesale and Retail ETQA will perform external moderations of assessments across the Accredited Providers according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
