PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

This unit standard is intended for people who are responsible for identifying food stuffs on display and in storage that are "going off" and that need to be disposed of according to legislation and cannot just be put into a dirt bin.

It is important for these persons to identify, store and dispose of these foods correctly or other foods could become contaminated in the store and customers or people removing items from bins could become seriously ill.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:

Identifying perishable foods for disposal.

Storing perishable foods for disposal.

Disposing of perishable food products.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard and the related Exit Level Outcomes of the Qualification must be accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body.

External Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

The accredited Training Provider will oversee internal moderation of assessment.

Internal and external moderation should encompass achievement of competence described in the specific outcomes of the unit standard as well as the integrated competence described in the purpose of the unit standard.
