PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard will be able to effectively evacuate and account for all applicable parties and movable critical resources/effects rescued from the risk-environment. In addition the learner will be able to identify and report any probable ill effects resulting from the cause of the risk.

The learner will be capable of:

Explaining and demonstrating procedures, equipment and actions utilized for the effective and efficient evacuation of all parties and/or movable critical resources/effects.

Accounting for all parties and critical resources/effects that have been evacuated, and those that have not been evacuated.

Reporting on the evacuation procedure and possible ill-effects suffered by persons during evacuation.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Communication at NQF Level 2.

Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 2.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

Applies to any instance where one or more people may be present and may require evacuation.

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Explain and demonstrate procedures and equipment required for an effective and efficient evacuation.

OUTCOME RANGE

Civilian evacuation procedures (from epicentre outwards) and military evacuation (from periphery towards epicentre).

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

The appropriate evacuation procedures for the two types of evacuation are explained and demonstrated.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

The selection of the order of priority for evacuation of parties and critical resources is explained and the explanation includes the reasoning behind the selection of priority.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

The types of critical resources/concerns that may need to be addressed at evacuation are identified and described in terms of the environment from which evacuation is necessary.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Account for all parties and critical resources that have been evacuated and for those that have not been evacuated.

Assembly, sequestered resources, information dissemination.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

The procedure selected to account for all evacuated parties is explained.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

The procedure selected to evacuate and safely store critical resources is explained.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

The method utilised to account for and record all parties and critical resources not evacuated are explained and the reasons for non-evacuation are stated and recorded.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Any ill effects experienced or noticed as a result of the evacuation are reported and recorded in order to ensure the continuing and further safety of all affected or not affected persons.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

Anyone assessing a candidate against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.

Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider by the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.

Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines and agreed ETQA procedures.
