PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for learners working in the medical pathology or blood transfusion field and who are required to function effectively and acquire a life-long commitment to good professional and ethical practices. This unit standard aims to enable these learners to understand and apply medical ethical guidelines while performing their duties.

Learners credited with this standard will be able to:
  • Explain the ethical guidelines relevant to the learner's scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient and/or donor's rights.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legislation and regulations relevant to the learner's scope of practice.

    Knowledge of the relevant prescribed protocols and policies of the institution where the learner is currently employed is demonstrated. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the ETQA policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standards as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.
