PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications. The learner is capable of evaluating a completed job against quality assurance criteria prior to delivery to the customer. This will contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in automotive repair and maintenance at NQF Level 3 and related qualifications. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
This unit standard has been designed as part of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for maintaining vehicles in the field of manufacturing and engineering. It is assumed that the learner has already learned to foster and maintain customer relations.

All work is performed with little or no supervision in accordance with operational, repair manual specifications and procedures and in compliance with occupational safety, health and environmental legislation. 

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
Collate all the relevant task information. 
OUTCOME RANGE 
  • The relevant task information includes records and data, industry standards and original equipment manufacturers' specifications.
  • Records and data includes vehicle check-in list, quotes, job cards, sublet reports and invoices.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Perform a post repair inspection. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
  • The inspection may include a physical inspection, to compare the repairs to records and industry standards and to perform operational checks and road tests.
  • Report includes compiling and submitting a quality assurance report.
  • The report to include to confirmation of the repairs, recommendations and deviations.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The inspection is carried out in accordance with work place requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Any defects observed are reported and corrected in accordance with workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Defects noted that were not part of the repair are recorded and reported to the customer in accordance with workplace procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The repair is confirmed to be in accordance with industry standards and customer requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Hand over the vehicle to the client. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
  • Hand over includes liaison with the client and completing all the relevant documentation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The client is notified when to collect the vehicle timeously. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The vehicle is ready for collection at the agreed time.

    The repair and any defects reported are shown to the client.

    Relevant documentation is completed and authorised in accordance with workplace procedures.

    Apply safety procedures during quality assurance inspections.
