PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Qualifying learners are capable of competent and efficient cladding, jointing and skimming of partitions and installation of skirtings and doors to partitioning. With these skills learners will contribute towards the overall efficiency of their employer organisations and ensure that breakages and work stoppages are kept to a minimum and that equipment is used in accordance with best practice industry standards and safety procedures.

This competence also advances a learner's personal expertise and employability in the construction sector and related fields, for example interior design and refurbishment.

    Boards are installed onto framework in accordance with prescribed safety procedures.

    Perform jointing of partition boards.

    Materials and tools are laid out in a logical fashion.

    Jointing plaster is mixed thoroughly in prescribed ratios.

    Jointing plaster is applied smoothly and adequately.

    The plaster is finished neatly with sandpaper.

    Perform skimming of partition boards. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    The learner must have knowledge of the required decorative finishes for wall paper, laminating and tiles, painting and bonding liquids.

    Skimming plaster is mixed thoroughly in acceptable ratios.

    The required finish for decoration is interpreted and applied in accordance with prescribed procedures.

    Perform installation of skirtings.

    Skirting material is measured and cut to length accurately.

    Skirting is aligned and fixed to boards according to prescribed requirements.

    Perform installation of doors.

    The range of hardware includes hinges, handles and locks.

    The opening is measured and the door is re-sized to fit.

    Tool inventory is completed before handover is conducted.

    Site acceptance, snagging and handover are conducted in accordance with procedures.

  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
  • Anyone wishing to be assessed against this Unit Standard may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution that is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
