PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to expose learners to the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic specifically on housing consumers. The housing policy currently gives little attention to HIV/AIDS and its impact on housing provision. Learners achieving this unit standard will critically evaluate research done and programmes developed in this area, and formulate suitable strategies to inform and educate housing consumers for sustainable housing development.

The qualifying learner will be capable of:
  • Investigating the effects of HIV/AIDS epidemic on housing.
  • Examining existing strategies and planned responses to managing the impact of HIV/AIDS in the housing sector and critically evaluate them in a given context.
  • Formulating an effective strategy to educate housing consumers on how to manage the impact of HIV/AIDS on housing.

    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and communication skills at NQF Level 5 or equivalent.

    Investigate the effects of HIV/AIDS epidemic on housing.

    An investigation describes the purpose and scope to determine the effects of HIV/AIDS epidemic on housing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Relevant research sources in the context of HIV/AIDS and its effects on housing beneficiaries are identified and analysed in a housing context. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The outcomes of the research are interpreted and discussed and recommendations are made to improve the situation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The impact of HIV/AIDS on the housing consumer is discussed using a case study. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Examine and critically evaluate the existing strategies for managing the impact of HIV/AIDS on housing.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The existing strategies to prevent/reduce HIV/AIDS are examined and discussed reflecting their relevance to housing context. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The effectiveness of these strategies is critically evaluated in the context of the housing consumers. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Formulate strategies and approaches for educating the consumer on how to manage the possible impact of HIV/AIDS. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A strategy is formulated to educate housing consumers on the impact of HIV/AIDS in terms of household' emotional, physical, psychological and economic support. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The strategy is designed in a way that it contains the objectives of HIV/AIDS education programme targeted to housing consumers. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A sample programme is drawn and presented to demonstrate how these objectives are met. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
  • Anyone wishing to be assessed against this Unit Standard may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution that is accredited by the relevant ETQA.
