Persons credited with this unit standard knows and understands the operating regulations and conditions governing persons and work as applicable to high voltage installations, apparatus and equipment.

    Occupational Health and Safety Act and Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS) are explained according to specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The general duties of employers and employees in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) are identified and explained within a relevant context. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Dangers and precautions related to electricity are explained according to requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Communication requirements regarding abnormal conditions are explained within a relevant context.

    Steps to be taken when work has to be carried out on apparatus are described according to requirements.

    Reasons for isolating and earthing before work is done are given according to requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The application requirements of warning notices and signs are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Minimum and additional earthing requirements for different types of apparatus are explained within a relevant context. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Any apparatus other than a line or a busbar, line or section of a line, synchronous VAR condensor or capacitor, busbar, transformer, insulated guard conductors and totally enclosed metal clad switch gear.

    Characteristics and application of earthing devices are described according to requirements.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
