PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is for learners in the law enforcement environment who would apply appropriate level of force when conducting medium risk policing and law enforcement tasks. Their tasks should be executed within ethical and legal requirements.

A law enforcement operation is evaluated in order to determine when negotiation and conflict resolution have been exhausted to determine whether force should be applied to reach a level of communication and cooperation. |

Apply the 5c's stair namely, cooperation, communication, comprehension, conflict and confrontation. The starting position for all conflict resolution is on the level of comprehension, as one cannot resolve conflict unless one is able to comprehend the other position frustration, which often is the result of conflict. |
