UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS |
Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures. |

UNIT STANDARD ASSESSOR CRITERIA |
Persons assessing learners against this unit standard must have a level 6 qualification in ABET Practice or its NQF equivalent and must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA.
The outcomes in this unit standard can be assessed in an integrated manner along with outcomes from other elective and core unit standards that make up the ABET Practitioner qualifications. Due to the nature of SMME as a learning area, candidates may be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required by SO 1 by presenting evidence, and critiquing a previous business enterprise that they may have been involved in. Where this is the case, the assessor should promote the inclusion of this real life evidence in the assessment process. |

Supplementary information:
As SMME is a new formal learning area, many educators may not have formal qualifications in SMME per se. Thus the learning assumed to be in place may be from a different sub-field of the field: Business, Commerce and Management studies, or it may be competence that has been informally gained through experience in working in the SMME, or business, commerce and management environment. Practitioners facilitating this new learning area have expressed a need for the requirements to be made clear. The decision to develop a unit standard for facilitators of SMME was motivated by this. |
