PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard provides a broad introduction to understanding the processes of manufacturing, production and construction. It is the starting point for a learner in this sector. The focus is knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in relation to the learner`s own context and experience of the world of work.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining and describing the drawing route through the process
  • Explaining the process
  • Describing parameters in which material is used
  • Determining sizes, volume and mass of components within the drawing

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in mathematics, engineering science and technical drawing at NQF level 4 or equivalent.
  • Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in computer technology at Level 3 on the NQF or equivalent.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Assembly process will include welded, bolted, riveted, bonded and screwed connections.
  • Drawing will include design drawing, assembly drawing, detailed drawing and general arrangement
  • The process will include production, fabrication, manufacturing and construction
  • The surface finish will include plastic coating, ultra violet (UV) protection, corrosion protection, fire protection, all in respect to location
