A learner will be able install an underground system in an agricultural field.

  • Prepare for installation of an underground system.
  • Install an underground system.
  • Perform end of installation procedures.
  • Test the operation of an underground system.

    1 The site of the underground system is marked out according to the plan layout and workplace procedures 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2 Equipment and materials are prepared according to workplace procedures

    3 A trench is prepared according to workplace procedures 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Preparation may refer to removal of sharp objects and stones, levelling of beds and addition of sand
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Install an underground system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1 The system parts to be installed are identified and checked for any non-conformances according to the layout plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2 The system parts are installed according to industry rules and workplace procedures 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The system parts are anchored at points, such as bends, values and stops or as indicated on the layout plan.

    3 The entire underground system is checked for any de-laminations according to workplace procedures

    Perform end of installation procedures.

    1 The system is started according to industry norms and workplace procedures

    2 Common problems associated with testing of an underground system are solved within scope of work

    3 The system is shutdown after testing it according to industry norms standard operating procedures 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4 Findings are reported according to workplace procedures 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Internal moderation.
  • External moderation.
  • An assessor, accredited by the relevant ETQA, will assess the learner`s competency.
  • Assessment procedures will be supplied by the ETQA in alignment with NSB requirements.
  • All assessment activities must be fair, so that all candidates have equal opportunities. Activities must be free of gender, ethnic or other bias.
  • Assessment and moderation procedures, activities and tools must be transparent, affordable and support development within the field, sub-field and NQF.
  • Questions and answers to determine theoretical knowledge are expected.
  • Examination of an assessment portfolio.
  • Reporting skills are demonstrated by effective communication, using verbal (language) and/or writing skills.
  • Direct observation in simulated or actual work conditions.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the appropriate ETQA.
