PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard forms part of the Qualification, National Certificate in Funeral Services Practice and is registered at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be involved in or working within a funeral services environment, specialising in Embalming, Marketing and Merchandising or Disaster Management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to each individual and the Funeral Industry as a whole.

  • Monitoring funeral ceremonies according to organisational procedures.

    Learners accessing this qualification, will have demonstrated competency in

    1. Human resources, logistics and capital required are identified and authorised for use.

    2. Funeral ceremonies are planned and specify agreed outcomes. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Funeral ceremonies include burial, cremation, sea burial, repatriation, exhumation, memorial services and disposition of cremated remains.

    3. Approval of funeral plan is obtained from stakeholders.

    4. Human resources are given authorisation to perform and are provided with required resources and instructions.

    Monitor funeral ceremonies according to organisational procedures.

    1. Funeral ceremonies are observed and evaluated against standards and instructions.

    2. Deviations from prescribed standards, instructions are identified, recorded and remedial actions implemented.

    4. Weaknesses in funeral ceremonies are identified and suggestions for their improvements given to appropriate individuals.
