PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to determine the work required on a lock, evaluate if the lock needs to be replaced. Learners are able to install, remove and replace a lock in accordance with standards and procedures.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Describe the use of tools.
  • Perform the installation of a lock.
  • Perform the removal and replacement of a lock.

  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 2.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy working environment (ID 123589).

    The area where the lock is to be installed is prepared so as to allow for work to be done efficiently.

    Lock is installed in accordance with job specifications.

    Quality of installation is checked against the job specifications. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Perform the removal and replacement of a lock.

    Lock is removed without damaging the lock or its surroundings.

    Lock is inspected to determine whether it should be replaced or repaired.

    Inspection includes but is not limited to testing.

    Lock is replaced in accordance with job specifications.

    Lock is inspected in order to ensure its working order.
