PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to contribute to the maintenance of equipment, specifically key cutting machinery. They are able to prepare the work area, conduct the maintenance in a safe environment and check the machine before using it again. This unit standard will enable learners to perform workshop practices, which will enable them to perform maintenance of key machines.

The qualifying learner is able to:
  • Describe the processes and procedures for equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Describe elements which should be taken into account when preparing a work area.

    The importance of safety principles during maintenance is described with examples. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Safety principles also include isolation procedures and cleaning.

    Reasons for conducting maintenance on key machines are explained with examples.

    Maintain equipment.

    Equipment is inspected in order to determine whether maintenance must be conducted. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Type of maintenance to be conducted is identified in order to know who should perform the maintenance. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Safety principles which pertain to maintenance of equipment are described with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Maintenance of equipment is demonstrated in a given scenario. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Maintenance must include calibration, setting and cleaning.

    Abnormal occurrences on equipment are identified in order to be reported.

    Abnormal occurrences may include but are not limited to outstanding faults, electrical, line obstruction, leaks, mechanical, incompleteness and incorrect line up.

    Describe elements which should be taken into account when preparing a work area.
