In all of the tables in this document, both the pre-2009 NQF Level and the NQF Level is shown. In the text (purpose statements, qualification rules, etc), any references to NQF Levels are to the pre-2009 levels unless specifically stated otherwise.

This unit standard does not replace any other unit standard and is not replaced by any other unit standard.

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
Learners who are involved in preparing input material chemically for cold-formed steel tube and pipe manufacturing processes require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard.

Qualifying learners can prepare for and chemically prepare input materials for the cold-formed production process. They will understand how chemicals are used to achieve this, the associated dangers and the use of chemicals on the environment. This will include monitoring the chemical treatment process, identifying non-conformances and taking corrective action.

The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in Steel Tube and Pipe Manufacturing (Seamless Hot-Finished, Welded or Cold-Formed) (NQF level 4) and related qualifications.
