PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to research and generate ideas for craft exhibition concepts. The unit standard focuses on exploring different themes and potential storylines to inform the overall concept development process. The unit standard contributes to the learning of those who want to develop a career path in the Art, Craft and Design sector, and contributes to greater levels of production and quality in this industry.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication, NQF Level 4. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE

  • Exhibitions are held in many different contexts / environments and these may include craft market stands, trade shows, museums, galleries, libraries, other visitor attractions, theme parks, corporate events and festivals.
  • Exhibitions may be temporary or permanent.
  • Purpose, scope and objectives of the exhibitions may relate to education, entertainment or trade and industry.
  • Stakeholders may include creative industry sectors, craft enterprises, organizing committees, local, national and international communities, local authorities, audience, technical specialists, designers, curators, and conservators.
  • Nature, needs and expectations of the audience may relate to the age, gender, educational level, familiarity with collection; race, creed, class, sexual orientation and political belief preferences, special interest and geographical community.
  • Critical analysis may involve making judgments about relevance of information and ideas; considering how ideas may be adapted; considering how ideas may be challenged; draw links between references and potential concepts; and evaluating work of others.
  • Presentation format of ideas may be visual, verbal, electronic presentation or a combination thereof, and multi-media.
