PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit is for people who load, off-load and stack timber using a loader in a production situation. People credited with this unit are able to:
  • Prepare for loading, off-loading and stacking timber.
  • Load a forestry transport vehicle in a production situation.
  • Off-load a forestry transport vehicle in a production situation.
  • Stack timber in a production situation.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic safety in forestry operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical timber handling equipment.

    AND any one of:
  • Prepare, operate and maintain a 3-wheeled loader in a non-production situation.
  • Prepare, operate and maintain a self-propelled knuckle boom in a non-production situation.
  • Prepare, operate and maintain a vehicle mounted knuckle boom in a non-production situation.
  • Operate front end loaders in a non-production situation.

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Competence can be demonstrated on any 3-wheeled loader, front-end loader, vehicle mounted knuckle boom loader or self-propelled knuckle boom loader. Demonstration of competence will take place "on-the-job" in a production situation. A forestry transport vehicle includes any one of the following: rigid truck, draw bar trailer or semi-trailer.
