PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this learning is that learners are capable of conducting visible traffic patrols according to operating procedures for different patrol modes. This unit standard will enable the learner to institute legal and preventative actions, and assist the public and other forces. It is envisaged that attaining the outcomes of this standard will lead to professional conduct of officers in public areas.

This unit standard also allows for transformation with the traffic policing profession, as learners become models for other learners. This attracts quality people and allows for the aspirations of people to be part of the traffic policing profession. The recognition of prior learning will formalise informal and non-formal leaning and learners will be able to obtain credits towards a national qualification.

Credited learners are capable of:
  • Addressing unlawful and unsafe traffic behaviour and circumstances.
  • Patrolling public areas to identify and prevent offences.
  • Rendering assistance to members of the public, colleagues and other relevant services.

    Patrolling may be on foot, motor cycle, cycle, horse, or in a vehicle.
