PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to design a marketable craft product.

This unit standard contributes to the competence of those who want to develop a career path in the Art, Craft and Design sector, and contributes to greater levels of production and quality in this industry. If learners are competent in this design unit standard then the general creativity, production quality, and marketing of craft products will improve and increase.

Learners credited with this unit standard are capable of:
  • Interpreting client specifications or concepts.
  • Benchmarking client specifications or concept with the market.
  • Creating designs for craft products.
  • Presenting designs through appropriate means.
  • Assessing and modifying existing craft product designs.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is recommended that the learner has completed the NQF level 2 National Certificate in Craft Production or equivalent with competencies in accumulating ideas for design of a craft product and interpreting of a client's specification.
