PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare their workstation and their client for eye lash permanent waving and perform the eye lash permanent waving. Learners will also have both an enhanced theoretical understanding and the practical ability to prepare for and conduct eyelash permanent waving.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing the workstation for an eyelash permanent waving in accordance with organisational and hygienic requirements.
  • Preparing the client for an eyelash permanent waving.
  • Managing and performing an eyelash permanent waving.
  • Conclude the eyelash permanent waving service according to organisational requirements.

    Lighting, temperature and ventilation are set in accordance with organisational requirements.

    The chair / plinth is protected according to organisational requirements.

    The relevant tools, materials and products are prepared according to organisational requirements.

    The appropriate waste receptacle is positioned within reach of the workstations.

    The skin and hair is assessed and findings are recorded on the client record card for treatment.

    Skin / hair disorder / diseases / conditions which preclude treatment are appropriately referred in a professional manner. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The client is suitably prepared for the eyelash permanent waving service in accordance with organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The eyelashes and surrounding skin is cleansed and made free of any make up with appropriate non-oily products. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Manage and perform eyelash permanent waving. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The permanent waving lotion is selected and the appropriate rods are selected and placed on the edge of the lashes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The glue is applied according to manufacturers instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The lashes are curled over the rods ensuring that the lashes are not crossed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Crescent shaped eye pads are placed under the lower lashes and the permanent waving lotion is applied according to manufactures instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The treatment is timed according to manufactures instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The pads are removed and the lashes are soaked with prescribed aftercare product. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Conclude the eyelash permanent waving service according to organisational requirements.

    Safe and hygienic work practices are demonstrated throughout the service.

    Sales opportunities for further treatments and products and suitable homecare advice are identified recommended that are suitable with the clients needs.
