PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is intended for learners working within the medical field who have collected or received human tissue samples and are required to competently use point of care (POC) biomedical instrumentation and/or rapid test kits for the testing of these samples.
The knowledge and skills gained will enable the qualifying learner to fulfil a more meaningful role in the medical field, thus enhancing health care delivery and economic transformation. Demonstrate knowledge of the principle of operation of the POC instruments/rapid test kits. |
OUTCOME RANGE |
POC instruments include but are not limited to blood gas analyzers, electrolyte analyzers, haemaglobinometers, glucometers and whole blood coagulation POC systems
Rapid test kits include, but not limited to: HIV, hepatitis, malaria, syphilis, antistreptolysin O titre, blood grouping, urine dipsticks, pregnancy test, Troponin T rapid test and haemoglobin |
