PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The learner achieving this unit standard will be able to provide assistance in collecting, analysing and presenting research data and findings on heritage specimens, sites or resources either within the context of an institution involved in heritage collection and preservation or within the context of specified field work such as a cultural mapping. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is recommended that prior to the undertaking of this unit, that the learner successfully completes the unit standards as mentioned below in order that they are able undertake the research in an informed manner. The recommended unit standards include:
  • Analyse and synthesise a variety of texts related to issues in heritage production and consumption.
  • Analyse guidelines and legislation pertaining to heritage management to participate in sustainable heritage practices.
