PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of the learning for this Unit Standard is that learners are able to load-in and load-out equipment, material and tools in a way that meets health and safety, live event and technical production industry requirements. If credited with this unit standard, the learner is able to safely prepare for loading, load-in and load-out equipment, material and tools according to manufacturers` recommendations and industry norms and standards.

Recognition or Prior Learning (RPL) must be applied should the learner provide sufficient evidence that he/she has attained the competencies outlined in this Unit Standard.

The learner competencies in order to load-in and load-out equipment, material and tools are that learners are capable of:
  • Preparing transport vehicles for the loading in and unloading of equipment, material and tools.
  • Selecting appropriate equipment, material and tools according to the loading sequence provided by vehicle-loading supervisors.
  • Transporting and place equipment, material and tools within loading bays according to industry norms and standards.
  • Loading and unloading vehicles according to industry norms and standards.
  • Securing equipment, material and tools in/on transport vehicles and within loading bays.
  • Unlocking and securing transport vehicle doors.
  • Effecting general maintenance on equipment, material and tools limited to storage and cleaning.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The learning assumed to be in place prior to the learner attempting this Unit Standard is:
  • Numeracy and Literacy skills equivalent to NQF 3.
  • A working knowledge of health and safety as required by the OH&S Act as amended.
  • Working at height practice and safety.
  • Safe operation of scissor and boom access equipment.

    The application chosen must be applied in all learning towards all Unit Standards attempted for the qualification.

    Vehicle-loading supervisors provide the loading sequence. Learners comply with the sequence, rather than developing the loading sequence.

    General maintenance on equipment, material and tools is limited to storage, cleaning and preparation.

    Transport vehicles are prepared for loading in a way relevant to the specific equipment, material and tools.

    Equipment, material and tools are identified and selected for loading according to the loading sequence provided. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Equipment, material and tools are placed in/on transport vehicles securely. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Equipment, material and tools are safely loaded and unloaded into and out of the transport vehicle according to industry norms and standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Containers are handled and moved correctly for the type and weight of its contents. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Prepare and transport equipment, material and tools for safe and secure arrival at destination.

    Equipment, material and tools are placed on loading bays safely and securely. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Equipment, material and tools are moved around loading bays and vehicles respectively, according to industry norms and standards.

    The load distribution within the vehicle is according to the vehicle`s manufacturers` recommendations.

    Equipment, material and tools are placed in/on transport vehicles safely and securely.
