A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
Handling animals prior to the slaughter process to ensure optimal animal welfare, product safety and quality.

To enter a learning program for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:

1. Literacy and numeracy (NQF1)
2. Communication skills (NQF1)
3. Introductory knowledge of basic layout and abattoir processes

General guide for scope, context and level

A learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes in this unit standard with regard to species which includes but are not limited to: Cattle, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Horses, Ostriches, Crocodiles, Game.

The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard without direct supervision, but with access to work-site procedures, operating instructions and statutory requirements. Refer to:
