PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Qualifying learners will be able to produce chemical pulp using a batch digester by operating, monitoring and controlling the process whilst adhering to Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality requirements. They also understand the fundamental process principles of chemical pulp production using a batch digester. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners attempting this unit standard are required to read, understand and interpret operating manuals, which are of a technical nature. It is therefore required that they have achieved NQF level 3 or equivalent accreditation. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
This unit standard covers the process from wood chips to pulp storage and covers the pressurised batch digester operations.
