PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the core category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Footwear technology. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to implement quality systems in footwear processes through correcting quality issues, auditing processes and products as well as reporting on quality trends. Learners involved in any elective area will use this standard. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Footwear processes. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The standard applies to all processes within clicking, closing, making, bottoms, finishing and dressing, and pattern cutting and design.

Implementing quality systems to conform to specifications and operating procedures.

1. Suggestions are made to improve and implement the application of a quality system in accordance with standard operating procedures.

2. Quality systems are implemented in a footwear plant in compliance with national and international standards bodies systems.

Correcting quality issues to avoid re-occurrence.

1. The ability to correct quality problems is demonstrated through self or others applying standard operating procedures.

1. Audit plans are produced for a process and product, which must implement a sample as representative, methodology, action taken and scenarios in compliance with national and international quality systems.

1. Sets of statistics are produced including graphs where accuracy, interpretation of trends and occurrences is shown in compliance with standard operating procedures.

2. Reports of tests conducted are produced by internal and external methods explaining all findings and recommendations in compliance with standard operating procedures.
