PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for relevant officers to competently use firearms in tactical duty related situations and to ensure effective protection of people and assets

Benefit for society of this unit standard is that the person who completes this will contribute to safety in society.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Prepare relevant personnel, firearms and equipment required for use in a specific duty/job related environment.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of the tactical operational procedures & techniques specific to the use of relevant firearms required for duty/job related environments.
  • Conduct post operational de-briefings with relevant personnel with regards to lethal and/or potentially lethal confrontations/incidents.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Firearm operator's mental state is catered for after a lethal/near lethal confrontation via proper psychological debriefings. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Relevant reports are completed according to legal and standard operational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Operator reports back on the operational & mechanical status of the relevant firearms/ammunition & equipment issued to him for duty. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Operational weaknesses and/or shortcomings are reported to supervision for further action. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the POSLEC SETA ETQA/and any other body with whom a MOU was entered into.
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the POSLEC SETA ETQA by SAQA/and any other body with whom a MOU was entered into.
