PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The person credited with this unit standard will be able to explain how beaching, grounding, re-floating, collisions and the impairment of watertight integrity are managed and explain in detail how an emergency situation will be managed. They will also be able to identify and explain in detail the management role of the international and national maritime organisations that deal with emergencies, distress signals at sea in port.

Precautions to be taken when beaching a ship are explained in order to maintain safety. |

Action to be taken if grounding imminent, or after grounding is explained according to shipboard procedures. |

The refloating of a grounded ship is explained with and without assistance. |

Action to be taken if collision is imminent is explained appropriate to the situation. |
