PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 3 National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes. Learners who are assessed competent with this unit standard are able to clean and lubricate strip, assemble and set/tune a range of clothing machinery. Learners are also able to conduct running maintenance and to diagnose a range of clothing machinery and to utilise garment construction skills in testing machines. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained an ABET Level 4 qualification or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 2.

    > Lockstitch machines.
    > Chainstitch machines.
    > Overlock machines.

  • The assessor must be in possession of the NQF level 4 sewing machine mechanician qualification or equivalent and have a minimum of 3 years relevant working experience in this field.
