This unit standard will be useful to people who are responsible for performing minor process maintenance on process equipment in a metallurgical plant.

    The principal components and the interlock systems of the process equipment are identified and their functions explained in terms of operational requirements.

    The requirements pertaining to a safe, healthy work environment during process equipment maintenance, and the consequences of not adhering to the above are explained in terms of specified requirements.

    Hazards and associated risks pertaining to process equipment maintenance are identified through relevant risk assessment procedures.

    The actions to be taken should hazards and risks be encountered are explained in terms of specified requirements.
