PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for persons who conduct shore based fishing operations.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Assess product to be discharged and determine destination.
  • Establish resourcing requirements.
  • Manage discharge and delivery.

    It is assumed that learners are already competent in the following:
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication at NQF Level 3.

  • Products to be discharged may include but not limited to equipment, people, cargo lifting appliances fishing gear, fish catches.
  • Discharging process may include but not limited to the following aspects quality, quantity, rate, product type, scheduling and transportation.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Assess product to be discharged and determine destination. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Product types and quantities are identified in the fish hold as per defined tally provided by skipper. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Product destination is identified as per defined market requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Product quality is identified and non-conformances are identified and corrective action implemented. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Establish resourcing requirements. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Resourcing requirements may include but not limited to equipment, people and transportation mode.

    Number of people and skills required to discharge the product is determined as per volume received. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Equipment required to discharge product is identified and sourced as per company-defined procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Task are identified and the resources allocated in order to discharge product as per defined company procedure.

    Manage discharge and delivery.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Volume of product discharged is compared to vessel tally sheets. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Quality of product discharged is evaluated as per company defined standard. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Allocation of resources is managed as per the actual product discharge and delivery process versus the discharge and delivery plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Rate of discharge is managed as per defined company discharge standard. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Product delivery is managed as per the actual product delivery versus the delivery plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Irregularities and emergencies are reported and appropriate actions taken as per defined company procedure. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
