This unit standard is intended for persons who carry out rigging operations on shore based fishing vessels.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Splice wires and/or ropes.
  • Operate deck machinery and equipment.
  • Rig, blocks and tackles.
  • Conduct maintenance operations on board fishing vessels.

    Breaking stresses of wires and ropes are calculated to find safe working loads.

    Types of splices and the related uses are identified and applied to the given specification and requirement.
