PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare an exhibition design using knowledge of design construction materials and systems

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Explaining construction materials and systems used in exhibition design
  • Communicating with freehand 3D sketching
  • Interpreting a design instruction 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in Computer Literacy, Mathematical Literacy, Communication at NQF level 3 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Working as a contributor in the context of a small project/sub-project involving few resources and having limited impact on stakeholders, cost and environment
  • Designs will include all exhibition stand types, including portable, system and shop fitted stands

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Explain basic construction materials and systems used in exhibition design. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Construction materials used in exhibition design are identified and explanation given of the way in which each is used according to specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Safety requirements set by the local authority are obtained and the main elements explained in terms of how they apply to the exhibition. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Exhibition industry safety standards are obtained and explained, as they relate to a specific exhibition. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Communicate with freehand 3D sketching.

    The importance of 3D sketching is explained, using a 3D sketch as an example and using correct terminology.

    Concepts, are communicated, with freehand 3D sketching in required format.

    Interpret a design instruction.

    Exhibition stand is designed to meet design instruction as per organisational standards.

    Specific exhibition safety standards are applied to stand design in line with requirements. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
