PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for people who can perform basic lubrication in relevant workplace in veneer, block board and plywood manufacturing environment, whilst adhering to other agreed standards pertaining to performance, safety, quality, and the environment. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Explain the procedures for the basic lubrication programme for the facilities in the relevant workplace in the plant (Range: elements of programme, production equipment to be lubricated, time schedule, sequence of activities, cleaning materials and equipment).
  • Describe the cleaning equipment, materials and other aids to be used in the process (Range: cleaning equipment, materials, aids).
  • Describe the storage location and inventory proceedings for the lubrication materials and tools (Range: storage facilities, drawing procedures, ordering procedures, storage procedures).
  • Perform the basic lubrication programme (Range: time schedule, sequence of activities, all elements to be serviced, service standards).

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that a Learner who wishes to enter a learning programme for this Unit Standard will be able to demonstrate:
  • Competency in mathematical and communication skills equivalent to that of a person who has qualified in these subjects at NQF Level 1.
  • An understanding of the basic activities of the veneer and plywood manufacturing process and procedures of the relevant workplace.
  • Knowledge and skills in the relevant workplace procedures, health and safety measures equivalent to NQF level 1 requirements.

  • The typical scope of this Unit Standard covers the "Range" set out in the specific outcomes above.
  • The typical context of this unit standard is the training of a Learner at NQF Level 2 in veneer/ plywood/ block board.
  • The Level assigned to this Unit Standard, i.e. Level 2, is appropriate because it entails the training of a novice in a veneer and plywood manufacturing environment and is a progression of the skills acquired from Levels 2 to 4.

    The explanation is made in the correct plant lubrication terminology.

    The details of the prescribed programme are explained correctly as per company requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The explanation is made within the prescribed time limits.

    Knowledge of the procedure of the basic lubrication programme for the relevant workplace in a veneer, block board and plywood manufacturing environment is a requirement for the successful achievement of this unit standard.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The manner in which the basic lubrication programme is performed shows that the learner knows and understands the details of this programme.

    The programme is correctly performed using the prescribed procedures and techniques. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The designated production equipment is lubricated correctly at the prescribed time. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    This activity is performed within the prescribed time limits. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Knowledge of the details (methods and techniques) to perform the basic lubrication programme in the relevant workplace in a veneer, block board and plywood manufacturing environment is a requirement for the successful achievement of this unit standard. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    An individual who wishes to be assessed against this Unit Standard may apply to, or inform, his immediate superior in the relevant workplace, to request management to arrange for his / her assessment by the relevant assessor accredited for this purpose by the ETQA of the FIETA. Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurer (FIETA ETQA) through formative and summative assessment by a registered Assessor. Assessment should be contextual and be conducted in the workplace as far as possible.

    The relevant NSB and SGB should be notified of any feedback related to this qualification.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
  • The FIETA ETQA will co-ordinate all moderation activities in accordance with their policies and procedures.
